Gloomy Lights - Jameson Nathan Jones Rework

from Drawers (Reworks) by Orange and Mountains

about

Jameson Nathan Jones is a classically-trained pianist and composer from Mississippi whose interest in modern electronics and sound design has led him to develop a unique musical language within the modern-classical landscape. Blending elements of classical and ambient music with the grittier analog textures often associated with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Jones has refined a sound that spans the intimate and minimal to the cinematic and raw.

Jones’s growing solo catalog has led to a number of film-scoring opportunities, providing him an outlet to supply music for numerous short films, audiovisual projects, and, more recently, his first feature-length film, concrete_savanna, released through Lakeshore Records.

2020 saw the release of his ambient-electronic LP Signals, a collaboration with popular YouTube explorers The Proper People. Jones has also released a number of singles and is now putting the finishing touches on a new solo album. This year, the composer launched a new solo synth-rock project, Lost Art of Surrender. Under this moniker, he combines the grainy character of his film work with songwriting.

Jones’s rework of Gloomy Lights by Orange and Mountains displays a range of elements that the composer has deftly made his trademark; the manipulation of synthesizers, granular textures, glitching electronics, and sparkling piano lines. The result is a textural feast of modern sounds that weave through moments of dissonance and harmony as the piece billows its way through a fascinating musical scene.
